Updates on Copenhagen Expats 🎬🇩🇰

Alongside my fieldwork, I have been developing new partnerships and taking on the role of costume designer for Copenhagen Expats.
Selecting brands whose identities genuinely connect with the story has become another layer of my research and another way to observe how fashion, culture, and consumer behaviour intersect in real life.
During Copenhagen Fashion Week, the series’ creator and director, Skylar Kim, and I managed to find a gap in our schedules to meet in person.

We attended an event hosted by a Brazilian brand I had previously written about and took the opportunity to discuss the characters, their visual identities, and the next steps for the costumes.

Two members of the Copenhagen Expats creative team meeting in Copenhagen during the costume design research process.

I can’t reveal much about the characters yet, but the process has been intense, challenging and incredibly rewarding.

And costume research doesn’t happen only inside a wardrobe.

I’ve been exploring clothing, identity, belonging and the concept of home  questions that sit at the heart of Copenhagen Expats.

During this special week in Copenhagen, filled with conversations around visibility, identity and human rights, I attended a screening of Queens of Joy, directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Olga Gibelinda, at UN City Copenhagen.

It is a beautiful, challenging and necessary documentary that brings us closer to realities many of us might otherwise never encounter.

It reminded me why stories matter and why some voices need not only to be heard, but to have the space to exist, to be seen and to be remembered.

What does it really mean to belong somewhere?

Copenhagen Expats is a new 12-episode mockumentary-style comedy series created by Skylar Kim. I’m part of the production team as Costume Designer, bringing fashion and trend research into the process of shaping the characters and their visual identities.

We’re also opening the door to brands and creative partners who want to become part of the Copenhagen Expats universe  from costume and character styling to products, locations and other collaborations that can be naturally integrated into the story.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has been following, supporting and opening doors along the way. There’s still so much happening behind the scenes that I can’t share just yet but this is only the beginning. 🎬🇩🇰

Follow along as I document the journey from research to costume, from Copenhagen’s streets to the screen, and everything we’re building around Copenhagen Expats.
