Where trend forecasting meets circular fashion.

Trend-Led SecondHand Curation is the methodology I developed to apply trend forecasting and consumer behaviour research within the secondhand market.

Rather than selecting garments based solely on aesthetics or brand recognition, I analyse emerging cultural signals, consumer demand and retail behaviour to identify pieces that are most relevant for the present moment.

The methodology combines field research, retail observation and circular fashion principles to extend the life of clothing while increasing its cultural and commercial relevance.

The Principle

Observe

Research begins outside.

I document consumer behaviour in retail environments, fashion events, secondhand shops and everyday urban life throughout Copenhagen.

Analyse

I identify recurring cultural signals.

Not simply colours or silhouettes, but changes in behaviour, aesthetics, purchasing motivations and social conversations.

Curate

Each garment is evaluated according to the current cultural context.

Activate

Styling, visual merchandising and storytelling help reconnect garments with new audiences.

Case Study 01

Earlier this season, I highlighted several accessories and garments for a shop display based on signals emerging across Copenhagen.

Shortly afterwards, similar visual elements appeared in promotional material surrounding The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Insight
Trend forecasting is about recognizing patterns.

Case Study 02

Looking Beyond the Label

One of the greatest lessons from working in secondhand fashion is that trends eventually disappear but garments remain.

When I evaluate donated clothing, I ask questions that are rarely considered in conventional retail.

  • How has this fabric aged?
  • Does the construction still perform well?
  • Does the silhouette still communicate something culturally relevant?
  • What survives after the marketing disappears?

Secondhand allows products to be evaluated through longevity rather than novelty.

Insight

Circular fashion measures value through permanence, not through launch dates.

Beyond Curation

Trend-Led Second-Hand Curation is applied in:

• secondhand retail

• visual merchandising

• fashion trend forecasting

• circular fashion projects

• costume design

• editorial styling

• consumer behaviour research

By connecting cultural research with secondhand fashion, garments gain a new context, new visibility and a greater chance of remaining in circulation.
